Kicking off the new year right, we’re back for episode 21 of the podcast! We invited our good friend The Mad Marquis to join us as a special guest as we look ahead to all the biker-y, gamer-y, and drink-y plans we have for the coming year. Afterword, the Marquis gives us insight into the Portland Oregon Burlesque performance scene, and his history of involvement with it. All the while, (some of) our hosts enjoy Jacob’s overly-strong take on a classic Spanish Coffee.
Hot damn, we made it twenty episodes! This time we’re celebrating with what is probably the beer most commonly brought to every house party in Portland, Full Sail Brewing Company’s “Session” lager! In our Bike Talk segment, we talk about the “ghost bike” phenomenon, and go over some unexpectedly interesting stats on cyclist deaths over the recent years. In our Game Talk segment, we talk about how to keep your game going and your group together through the schedule-destroying times of the late holiday season. In our Bar Talk segment, we talk about bar fights – how to avoid them and how to survive them.
This time we have two special guests in the studio, Andre and Alma of the local klesmer-gypsy-punk band Chervona! Our drink of the evening is Bak’s Bison Grass Vodka (aka Żubrówka), a new experience that I (NPC) quite enjoyed – this may even become my new go-to for vodka drinking! In our Bike Talk segment we check in on Xander’s daily frosty commute, and then tell stories of Chervona’s bike-religious drummer. In our Game Talk segment, we kinda forget about games and just tell cat stories. In our Bar Talk segment, we talk about how to survive those holiday parties that you really don’t want to be at. We close out with more discussion of Chervona, and some details of awesome events that are coming up soon!
It’s the long awaited “Whiskey with Matt Buckley” bonus episode! Back in September, NPC, Poppy, Dr. Gerrymander, and Just Jacob sat down at 4K Ranch for a special curated tour of Matt’s stunning Irish Whiskey collection (after a fun day of eating, exploring, and shooting). Matt is one of the co-founders of the amazing Wagoncon gaming convention here in the Columbia Gorge, and as part of this episode we dig a bit deeper into the roots of the con, and what lies in its future. Matt then educates the crew about the wonders and history of The Water of Life, all the while plying them with a series of incredible distilled spirits. We hear how someone with a severe allergy to alcohol ends up having a collection of the finest product of Ireland.

Poppy (your favorite local Wannabe Wine Snob) brings our drinks of the evening, which are both the White and Red Winemaker’s Cut wines from Copa di Vino, a winemaker we’ve mentioned before in previous episodes. In our Bike segment, we talk about a variety of options available to make motorbiking and bicycling more accessible to those with physical discomfort, limitations, and disabilities. We carry that subject forward into our Gaming segment, discussing a variety of approaches that modern game-makers have taken to make their games more accessible. And again in our Bars segment, we keep the conversation going, discussing how accessibility can inform your approach to getting a good drink in town, as well as the choices you make when working behind the bar.
With this episode we conclude the first adventure of the Wolves of Zaramund! We open with more in-character discussion of future plans, and further preparation for the next dungeon.
